Celebrate Fall
Fall Fun for Homeschoolers: Embracing the Season with Apple Picking, Leaf Crafts, and Playful Pioneers
As the leaves start their colorful transformation here in Northern California, it's the perfect time to take a break from the usual homeschool routine and embrace the magic of autumn.
Apple Orchard Adventures & Leafy Explorations
Our family recently enjoyed a delightful trip to a local apple orchard. We picked a bounty of apples, which we've been happily devouring ever since! We also spent hours immersed in nature, observing leaves, creating beautiful collages, and making colorful leaf rubbings with crayons.
Walnut Shell Boats & Historical Connections
Inspired by reading "In 1492" about Christopher Columbus, we crafted walnut shell boats with tiny flags. This hands-on activity brought history to life and sparked curiosity about exploration and discovery.
Thanksgiving Deep Dive with Playful Pioneers
We turned to the Playful Pioneers Volume 2 New England Guide to delve deeper into the Thanksgiving season. The first month of this comprehensive elementary bundle provided a wealth of themed learning activities, perfectly complementing our autumn adventures.
Key takeaways:
Seasonal Learning: Embracing the changing seasons can enrich your homeschool experience.
Nature Connection: Spending time outdoors fosters creativity and appreciation for the natural world.
Hands-On Activities: Leaf crafts and walnut shell boats make learning fun and engaging.
Literature & History: Books like "In 1492" and resources like Playful Pioneers bring history to life.
While preschoolers may have developing attention spans, that may give up on leaf rubbings or collage sooner than we wish, just having a tray of seasonal nature items available for your young child to observe and enjoy can be a perfect way to add sensory exploration and appreciation of the natural world into your days.
