Art Appreciation with The Peaceful Press
One of the questions that I asked my children as part of our year end review was, "What was your favorite painting that we studied this year and why do you find it to be beautiful?" They told me the title of each piece that they had chosen, the artist, and what medium the artist had used. We looked at their rendition of the painting and we also looked up other paintings by the same artist to compare them.
It was so wonderful to see their eyes light up, to hear why they chose the paintings that they had chosen, and why they found them to be beautiful.
It wasn't until much later in life that I developed my own appreciation for the depth of beauty in art and it has been a breath of fresh air to see it developing in my young children over the years. Our children are never too young to observe art.
Even by simply displaying it in our homes they learn to recognize it and to notice it in the world around them. You will be amazed at how much they begin to recognize and point out from being exposed to it from a young age.
It was such a joy to hear how their love for art has grown through The Peaceful Press curriculums over the years and their knowledge has expanded. The fine art pieces are such a beautiful and natural extension of these curriculums that overflow into our homes and the world around us.
As we roamed the halls of our local museum of art a few years ago with our children I was amazed at how they remembered the fine art pieces from our school time and the artists who had created them.
They were young, yet still, they were able to see the depth and the beauty of all that was there to take in and to observe. They walked slowly from piece to piece and every so often I would hear a gasp followed by the words, "Mommy, I remember this painting!"
Our Art Memory Game is a wonderful and fun way to review all of the paintings that we have observed over our studies through The Playful Pioneers, The Precious People, and The Kind Kingdom.
They would also be great to take along to your local art museum hole punched on a ring as an art scavenger hunt as well!
Our printable Art Memory Game can be found on our website at The Peaceful Press.
