Ditching Overwhelm and Burnout for Beauty and Adventure

So many homeschooling moms complain about overwhelm and burnout. I have been there myself in the earlier years of homeschooling.

We try, as well as we might, to take all of the many beautiful curriculums available to us and try to figure out a way to use them all in our daily allotment of time. This, more often than not, proves to be overwhelming, not only to us but even more so to our children.

Instead of trying to replicate school at home, we have a beautiful opportunity to make our school time a life-giving time to embrace lifelong learning together as a family.

This affords us time to breathe in the fresh air, to observe nature, to read living books, to go on adventures within our homes and outside of them. What our children really need is us. They need to be surrounded by stacks of books that they can grab throughout the day. They need to see beauty in all of its many forms and have the opportunity to describe it to us as they perceive it.

The best thing that we can do for our children is to lay the feast for them to glean from and to join them in their adventure, celebrating them along the way.

So, as you look ahead to how your family can thrive and not just simply survive in this next school year and grow your relationship as a family I encourage you to pray that the Lord would reveal the plans that he has for you and for your family. He will never steer you wrong.

A fellow Peaceful Press mom shared her experience with us related to these matters.

“Our family was (and is still) going through a difficult season of dealing with some big, hard, heart issues in our kiddos. And our school days were suffering. As I prayed over our year, the Lord led me to your curriculum, our days have been filled with peace. The scheduling provides me margin in my day to focus on heart issues without the stress of feeling like we are “falling behind.” It allows us to learn in a way that is beautiful and natural for our family. It engages my kids and has led to wonderful conversations, connections, and bunny trails of research. My kids ask to do school, and our relationships within our family are being strengthened. I just wanted to let you know that the Lord is using your hard work to bless our family and bring glory to His name.”
