Encouragement for the Homeschool Mom
The days are long but the years are short.
The old adage is true. Enjoy these days with your children because, someday before you know it, they will grow up. Enjoy this season right now for what it is because one day these days will be the ones that you long for.
Study your children.
What is working for them? What is not? What do they enjoy? What frustrates them? What can you do differently that will help them to have better days and that will help to build up your relationship with each other?
Always choose your and your child's relationship over your curriculum.
If you or your child are having a rough day take a break, go for a walk, play a game, change things up. The lessons will be there tomorrow.
Every environment is an opportunity to learn.
Baking, gardening, playing, reading aloud, everyday life alone has so many learning
opportunities.
Don't compare your children or their education to others.
Every child will learn to read in their own way and time. Nurture that time however long it may take. Be patient and encouraging. Read aloud together often.
Let your children play over checking off the to-do list.
If your children are playing they are learning so when you are able to allow them to play, let them.
Take every opportunity to do what you can outdoors.
Charlotte Mason said, "Never be within doors when you can rightly be without." Reading painting, gardening, playing, walking, hiking, picnicking, outdoors when you can is wonderful for your mind, body, and soul. Take school outdoors whenever possible.
Be slow to speak and quick to pray.
We will better serve our children if we are quicker to pray for them then we are to lecture them. Make it a habit to pray more and to speak less.
