We love studying birds, butterflies, and bees, and the new Meadow Guide includes four weeks of study about these subjects along with meadow mammals. While we continue working on large and fine motor skills, phonics, counting, art, and practical life skills, we engage in fun activities such as a butterfly hop, mammal mosaic, bird life cycle match up, and painting flower petals.

We found some beautiful new books for this guide as well!

Meadow Plants Week

Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney

Flowers are Calling by Rita Gray

Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt by Kate Messner

Meadow Bugs Week

Hello Bugs, What Do You Do? by Loes Botman

You can find a sweet circle time with this book at this link.

Flutter, Butterfly by Shelby Alinsky

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Meadow Birds Week

Bird Builds A Nest by Martin Jenkins

Birds by Carme Lemniscates.

Little Home Bird by Jo Empson

Meadow Mammals Week

The Fox Went Out On A Chilly Night By Peter Spier

Big Tracks, Little Tracks by Millicent E. Selsam

Little Beaver and the Echo by Amy Macdonald

My favorite part of any guide are the recipes, and my favorite recipe from this guide is the Lavender Shortbread Cookies. There are many steps that young students can help with in this simple recipe, and it beautifully incorporates an important plant.

The Meadow Guide would be a great accompaniment to the Little House on the Prairie book from your year with The Playful Pioneers if you are combining older and younger students in one home.

With this, our tenth nature guide, we have also created Nature Guide Volume Two that bundles guides which include advanced phonics and counting concepts. This makes it a perfect option for a nature-based kindergarten year. Nature Guide Volume Two contains Sky, Mountain, Desert, Freshwater, Farm, and Meadow at a savings of $23 when purchased separately!

This would make a complete kindergarten year, but if you wanted to add a little more learning for your child, we recommend Right Start Math and All About Reading. They both have a proven track record and keep children engaged with learning.

Nature Guide Volume One will contain Garden, Ocean, Tree, and Christmas, with the addition of Rainforest, and City, coming this summer.
